In one way or another it is safe to say we have all had the displeasure of experiencing cancer’s dreadful presence. So, when I was given a last-minute opportunity to raise money for an amazing organization, I gave it zero thought and said, ABSOLUTELY! I am making the personal commitment to support fundraising efforts in breast cancer prevention with, Find The Cause Breast Cancer Foundation. I was privileged to run my first marathon last November in NYC. This time I will challenge myself to run 26.2 miles in the city that has my heart, by participating in the 124th, 2020 Boston Marathon.
The mission of the Find The Cause Breast Cancer Foundation is to fund scientific research on the environmental causes of breast cancer and to educate the public on prevention. This foundation is funding research investigating the link between environment and cancer. Over 90% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history and only 7% of the billions raised for breast cancer research goes toward prevention. If the environmental causes can be identified, we can prevent breast cancer for future generations. As a mother of two children, I strongly believe in the importance of understanding our environment and its impact on our health.
I will run in honor of my fantastic friend and personal hero, Kim (McDonough) Perry. She was first diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer in April 2017. She is a mom to 3 perfect boys and an amazing wife to her biggest cheerleader, Scott. Her story reminds me to remember that even on your darkest days to keep your chin up and continue to face your fears head on. She is the absolute best and I cannot imagine a world without her! She inspires me every single day.
I will run in memory of Betsy Mae DeWallace, who fought hard and ultimately passed from Breast Cancer in 2007. I will always appreciate her welcoming heart and generosity.
To my sweet grandmother, Marie Ashe, who was taken by this disease years ago, I will forever miss you. You were my favorite person!
For all of those affected by breast cancer, I run in support of you!!
On Marathon Monday, I will be running with the hope that through organizations like Find The Cause, we can prevent future generations from ever having this disease.
Extreme determination will help me accomplish the physical task of completing this marathon. My goal is to raise $5,000 and to do this, I need your help! Your contribution no matter how large or how small, every little bit helps, and every donation is greatly appreciated. Together we can do this!!
Thank you to my family and to all of you for your support. I am grateful!
Thank you for supporting Edwina in her outstanding effort to raise funding in support of Find The Cause Breast Cancer Foundation! Join us on Marathon Monday (April 20, 2020) and help cheer her on through her 26.2 mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston and know that, with every step, together we are making progress toward cancer prevention.
